I was having trouble finding this out online, so I figured this would be the best place to help.

I've been experimenting with new computer parts for a build I plan on carrying out in the summer (http://pcpartpicker.com/p/RwnFyc if parts are needed for reference) After realizing that I would probably be junking my current laptop, I figured I should use the parts at hand.

The motherboard I'm looking at has 4 ram slots (Two dual channel slots, I believe) and my current laptop has 6 gb of ram, one 4gb stick and one 2gb stick. If I purchased adapters for the laptop RAM, could I put my 4 gb desktop sticks in their corresponding slots and have the laptop RAM in the remaining slots in case they were ever needed?

By the way, all of the ram is DDR3. Thanks in advance for any responses.

RAM usually needs very very accurate path lengths - different data arriving at different times is bad.

If you run some RAM on those adapters and some not, I expect you'll need to massively underclock the RAM.

Running different speed/manufacturer RAM is usually considered a bad idea even before you throw adapters in.

I didn't even know those adapter existed :p Honestly, though, getting the adapters sound like more trouble than anything. RAM doesn't like getting jumbled around with other brands, timings, and speeds, after all, so it might not even work. I'd just get the RAM new for the desktop.

What everyone else is saying. It's a chancy proposition to think you can run your laptop memory with a teamed-up matched set of 2400speed RAM. JUST DON'T DO IT!
And why disable a laptop in the process?
