Can I splice a 4 pin CPU power connector to make it longer?

Like the title says my 4 pin CPU connector on my PSU is too short. Would it be ok if I cut the wires and soldered in the extra length that I need? I have experience with soldering as I used to work as a guitar tech. Also what kind of wire should I use if I can?
thanks!

It's an ATX 12V PSU (I'm not sure of the brand off hand), Silverstone milo 03 HTPC Case, and an ASUS A78m-e MOBO.

Definitely don't bother splicing PSU cables.

I, myself, have definitely cut cables to fit an 8-pin CPU connector off of a 6-pin GPU cable instead of 4-pin (i7-930), but I definitely don't recommend that. For me, it was because I was in Guam and my new PSU was a month's shipping away. For you, just go on Amazon or go by Fry's and get an extension cable in the next two days.
