My current system has an ebay special evga x79 ftw that the bios refuses to update. to my dismay when i was running 3dmark i was scoring way lower than i should have (5.5k score). after messing around in the bios it had a "PCIE workaround" that enabled my r9 270x's to work at gen 3 speeds. gpuz still states that my cards are working at PCIE 1.1, but my 3dmark score skyrocketed to a 9.9k score. Now i do have a spare p9x79LE board that has a bad bios chip. I ordered the replacement chip, etc. i am fairly confident it will work. my question is when i do get it up and running are there any bios settings similar to the evga x79 letting me do a PCI-E workaround? i have seen some post with pro boards that it just automatically connects at 3.0 speeds. but that might be just apples and oranges. anyone have this board that can chime in? i have a i7 3930k. and before people start spouting "its not officially supported..." i know. anyone googling for 2 minutes knows. and those same people know some motherboards can still be made to work this way with this configuration. the question is, is this one of those motherboards?
