Can I get a hand with narrowing down supported CPU's with PGA988 + A15/A16 Bios?

Hello esteemed ladies and gentlemen of the establishment. I come to you in a quest for knowledge. Below I have compiled a short, and somewhat lacking list of details about my Betsy. She's a tough ol' lad who currently dual boots Win10 and OS X 10.9. I find she's a little slower these days on Battlefield than she used to be and thus am searching for an upgrade.

  • Computer: Dell Latitude E6410
    CPU Type: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU M 620 @ 2.67GHz
    Socket: PGA988
    BIOS Type Phoenix EFI
    BIOS Version A16

Now, I don't have the $ to buy a new laptop (I sold my gaming rig and miss it, and for now Betsy will have to do) Although I've done some research and it seems that the
Intel i7 720QM
should work just fine in my laptop, although I was hoping for something that has a better resting pulse than 1.6GHz (even though turbo is 2.8GHz, considering the type of CPU it would still be an improvement.

My issue is, I'm having a tough time finding which CPU's are supported by my BIOS AND will fit my socket.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Interesting rig, and enjoyed your images.

This is an older CPU, with no easy upgrade path. These old Core i7's are not new anymore, and have not been manufactured in years.

On top of that, from the link above, the performance difference will be a minimal increase from what you have already.

You will be far better off saving the money for now, and putting the money towards a new MB, and a more modern CPU.

Hey digitaldoc, appreciate the response. As I mentioned I'm using the computer 1/2 as a hackintosh, and the level of functionality I'm getting with this motherboard is superb. Just looking for some extra juice, and I agree the 720QM, while being an upgrade, isn't that much of an upgrade. Which is why I'm trying to figure out what my options are with Phoenix EFI A16 BIOS + Socket PGA988.
