Hey what's up guys, currently I have Windows 8.1 that my friend put into my comp when he sold it to me. It's currently going to expire and I purchased a new windows 8.1 key. I tried using this key onto my computer to renew it per say but it says they're different versions. Long story short, is it possible to delete the windows 8.1 on my SSD and re download it onto it without deleting or having to back up my 1 TB data? I'd rather not have to download everything again... Thank you very much!

First you insert the CD, then restart your PC, and then you'll start the installation process...when asked to sellect partition where you would like to install OS, sellect one where you have previous OS (Local Disc C:) and so on. But once again, if your OS is installed on that SSD, and that SSD is one partition, you can reinstall without loosing any data...

Okay thank you! Do I just right click my SSD and format it and then shut off the computer and insert my disc with the restart?

What do you have? A single drive, with a single partition?
What install media do you have? Something you bought?

I have a Solid state drive 120 GB with my windows 8.1 on it and a 1 TB full of steam games, school work, etc. I just want to reinstall windows 8.1 on that 120 GB SSD and not have to touch my 1 TB.

OK, then yes.
Disconnect the HDD during the OS install.
Games, if Steam or Origin, will probably not have to be reinstalled.
Other games, yes...reinstall.
