Hey all, I bought my laptop 2-3 years ago, and it was great when I bought it. I mainly used it for surfing, some coding and some very casual gaming.
But after some time it got slower and slower.
Just yesterday I got fed up with it, and I did a clean Windows 7 install hoping it would at least make it a little bit faster, but nope, still slow.
Slow turning on/off, slow navigation in win explorer, slow and unresponsive everything.
Any of you have an idea what the problem could be?
Thanks in advance :D

Specs:
Acer Aspire v5-571g
nVidia GeForce GT620M
Core i3 1.4 GHz
4 GB RAM
Windows 7 Service Pack 1

A ssd is, bar none, the best performance improver you can make for a laptop.
Laptop hard drives are optimized for power savings, not performance. 5400rpm drives are s l o w.
You might check your power settings to make certain that plugged in, you are running full speed.

Hi there Rhonin27,

This SSD will perfectly fit in your laptop. Though, if the overall slowness of your laptop is caused by something else, I doubt that a new drive will greatly improve the speed.
You can start the troubleshooting process with just testing the drive. Most of the HDD testing tools provide S.M.A.R.T. results which will eventually show whether there is something wrong with the drive or not.
Testing your RAM may be a good idea as well.
Have you cleaned the dust out of the laptop? If not, you can do so. Dust blocking the airflow could result in increased temperature. You can use some tool to measure that as well.

Cheers,

thanks for your input mate :D
did a memtest on the ram, it was fine, and the dust was recently cleared too
Checked the temps, they are at 40 degrees C while idling
S.M.A.R.T said that the HDD was in GOOD condition
what could else be the problem?

All laptop drives are in the 2.5" format.
Some will be 9mm high, and some will be 7mm high. 7mm is more prevalent, particularly in the thinnest and lightest laptops.
The Samsung you linked is a fine one and is 7mm high and will fit anywhere.
Here is a link I found that shows how to take apart your laptop:
http://www.insidemylaptop.com/taking-apart-acer-aspire-v5-571/

To test your current hard drive, you can run something like ATTO
http://www.attotech.com/disk-benchmark/

You can search google for some atto results for the Samsung 850 and compare.
