My Internet keeps disconnecting and reconnecting.

I've had a terrible internet problem since Friday, March 6th. Also, sorry for the long post, I just wanted to eliminate everything I've done so far to prevent unneeded answers.

I have a 35 mbps, cable broadband connection through Bright House. On Friday, I was doing my normal thing and my connection just suddenly goes offline. I'm just loading a web page (G-mail, not that it matters at this point) and it's not loading. So I just look down to see that Skype is offline. So I just wait a bit and it comes back online. That day, every 15 minutes, my internet went offline for 30 seconds and came back online.

I have a Touchstone Data Gateway DG1670 wireless router. This router is plugged in 24/7 (which leads me to think that I need a new one) and serves at least 2 computers in the day time with a connection (Wired/Wireless). One of my computers is directly connected via Ethernet. The other is the one I mainly use, it's connected via Wifi.

I have tried for hours to isolate the problem and whenever I think that I've found the solution, it drops again. I've searched online for days to find the answer. I've changed just about every setting relating to it, rebooted it several times to reset the gateway, and even did a factory reset and didn't touch a single thing but with no avail.

This is my average connection speed http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/4204359233 This speed isn't a problem.

It seems as if it's renewing the ip address every few minutes or something.

The frequency of it happening now is every 5 or so minutes. Also, something really weird, it doesn't go offline AT ALL when I'm in a Skype call. The golden ticket to not going offline is being in a skype call, which lead me to the fact that the router may be renewing the ip address every few minutes or dropping and reconnecting for some reason.

The only answer I've seen online is to contact the ISP but I don't think it's an ISP problem. It seems like a Router/Modem problem. Also, Bright House has generally incompetent technicians.

Hopefully someone knows the answer :? Thanks in advance.

Well if you are experiencing the disconnects both wired and wireless, then you will definitely want to check the stability of the line. Have you checked for any packet loss?

You will also want to make sure the modem firmware is up to date.

Yes, I've checked for packet loss and my modem firmware is up to date. The stability of the line isn't an issue in this. When I'm in a Skype call, it works for hours no problem as long as I'm still in the call. But as soon as the call is ended, my internet just implodes with the force of a thousand suns and goes offline that very second it ends.
