I have 2 identical video cards installed in port 1 and 4, with the sli bridge installed between them. Win 8.1 detects and uses the first card just fine, but the second card shows up as a windows basic display adapter (code 31). I know both cards work because I have tried them both individually. What am I missing?

when i have the cards in slots 1 and 3, it doesn't event show up in device manager. The manual indicates something about slow 3 begin disabled for 28-lane processors, which evidently I must have.

what cpu do you have the lowest tier only support 28 pcie lanes and depending on how your mb is setup (aka M.2 slots) you may be limited to 1 video card unless you disable things in the settings. Just a thought. Otherwise...

Try just 1 video card in the other slots and see if it works. Than test both cards individually. if they work than it's a motherboard / settings issue.

CPU is i7-5820K Haswell-E 6-Core 3.3GHz LGA 2011-v3. If that's the issue, what do I have to disable in the settings? There are some dip switches to disable PCI-E ports.

Edit: both cards work individually in slot 1.

I am having the same issue and I'm wondering if there is a defect in the board. I managed a partial solution. I put the boards in slots 4 and 6. They both get recognized so I get the SLI option. I have the 5930 cpu and slots 1 and 4 should get me x16/x16 but for now I have to settle for x16/x8 because boards in slots 1 through 3 are not recognized. I am using the EVGA X99 FTW motherboard with the latest BIOS. It burns me not being able to use slot 1 (x16) so I may end up sending the board back.

Like the others said, contact the MB company because they truly have the only answers. everyone who commented either do not have the MB or has it and running into the same problem.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that they disable the full speed on the middle slots because its assigned to other parts like the M.2 slots. 8x PCIE 3.0 is MORE than enough for any current card on the market.
