My A8 3870k reads about 50*C under load using msi control center, while hw monitor reads TMPIN 0 at 90*C, TMPIN 1 at 99*C, TMPIN 2 at 93*C. AMD OD reads 29*C margin underload on all cores. I felt the heatpipes coming from the cpu and the bottom ones were pretty hot, around 53*C according to my thermal imager. Are these temps ok and is the HWMONITOR reading correct? My cooler is a zalmann cpnx5 preforma.

Solution
Don't mix up temps with margins. TEMP = MAX TEMP minus MARGIN.

Apparently the MAX TEMP (= Tj max) is 70C per https://teksyndicate.com/comment/1267186

So if the Margin is 20C then the actual temp is 50C

From what I've read, I'd tend to believe AMD Overdrive. So 29C Margin means 41C temp which is OK. Especially seeing the comments in that link that the CPUs run hot. I certainly wouldn't overclock it though. It sounds like it'll run real hot and shut down then. Just make sure you keep the cooler clean and keep the cooler fan rpm over 1000rpm.

thanks for the response. So really the cpu is only running at around 110*F under load? That is a great temp. And the heatpipe would be hotter than the cpu because it is pulling the heat away from the processor and dissipating it correct?
