Can I upgrade my current processor to an I7 form an I5

Solution
The CPU is compatible and you have enough power. If this is an upgrade to increase gaming performance then you will see maybe 5 frames better. You need to upgrade you GPU for better gaming performance. If this is an upgrade to decrease render times or if you're doing heavy CAD work or something along those lines then yes this upgrade will help a lot. It's mostly the hyperthreading giving you the extra cores that will help.

Yeah it would mostly be for gaming and how much of an increase would a new motherboard because right now I can run most games at high setting with little lag but at ultra and so on it starts hurting.

The motherboard doesn't do much of anything for gaming. To run games better you need a better GPU. The GTX 970 is the best bang for the buck card right now.

Oh my bad I thought the motherboard would cause a big increase, but anyway would the GTX 970 work weell with my current motherboard and I5

A 970 and i5 is the perfect combo for gaming. It's got enough power to run every game on Ultra and doesn't break the bank. It will work perfectly with you motherboard too.
