Hello,
First post from a long time fan.

I have a laptop (Acer V531p) which came new with OEM win8 (not win8.1).
The product key for win8 is embedded in the UEFI mobo.
5 months ago I did the free MS store upgrade to win8.1.
Since then my laptop has been significantly slower.

??? What I would like to do is a clean install of win8.1 (yes, win8.1) using the process MS create installation media for win8.1, http://windows.microsoft.com/en-AU/windows-8/create-reset-refresh-media

Will this process use my UEFI OEM win8 product key, or will it fail?

I haven't been able to find a clear answer on this yet.
All help appreciated.
Thanks.
AD.

Yes, it will. I have done something similar. Only difference in my case was I obtained the install media from another source.

The only pitfall I ran into was the install media wouldn't auto detect or accept the key in the UEFI. The workaround was to install with a generic install key and then manually change it to the UEFI key after the install. Even manually entering the key during install didn't work. But it did accept it and activate after install.

Be sure to obtain a copy or your key before you attempt the clean install. Easier than doing it after.
