r9 290 for main gpu and 650 ti for physx card

can someone tell me how to go about doing this? someone said that nvidia drivers prevent me from doing this but i was told that there is a way.

You need a Geforce GPU as your primary to do PhysX. So you wouldn't be able to do it with your R9 290

A separate PhysX card is not warranted these days. It adds cost and power consumption. The R9 290 will handle it easily without any noticeable downgrade.

yeah i thought that too but when i turn on physx the fps bogs down to 30 fps on metro 2033 with out it i get consistant 70-80fps

Because you can't run PhysX on an AMD GPU. If you have an AMD GPU, your CPU actually renders PhysX, not your GPU, which heavily impacts performance. This is probably why you're dropping to 30fps

Though you do have a dedicated PhysX card which usually eliminates the large drop in framerate. Perhaps it's your CPU still running it. Are you absolutely sure it's your 650ti rendering it?

That is because physX on AMD cards uses the CPU. the point is don't turn on physX. and nvidia disables physx if an AMD card is detected. There was a way to do it with very old hacked nvidia drivers, but f you want physX just buy nvidia.

The GTX 650 Ti is a very good PhysX card (the GTX 750/750 Ti are better).
