Hello all,
I am using a ASRock B75 Pro3-M with a Sandy bridge Processor. The motherboard has 4 RAM slots. I have 2x2 GB DDR3 1330 RAM installed in 2 - 2 - configuration. Now I want to increase the RAM. If I buy a 4GB stick and install it in 4 - 2 2 combination will it work? And how about if I want to make it 12 GB by 4 2 4 2 combination? I need to be sure if I can keep those 2GB RAMs.

Thanks

You can mix 2 GB & 4GB RAM modules certainly, and in any configuration, but if want to benefit from dual-channel performance which the motherboard supports you need to install modules which are the same capacity per each pair of slots.

So for 12 GB total, and to ensure dual-channel performance benefits, install 2 x 4GB in one pair of slots, then 2 x 2 GB in the other pair of slots. It's also advisable to buy the RAM in "matched pairs" to ensure compatibility with each other. This means the pair match in brand, part number and specification, not just capacity.
