PC Wont Turn on Via Power Button, PSU Provides Plenty Power

I Have looked into this on the web and didn't see the exact same situation and most people say that it is most likely the PSU. I will tell you why I think it is the motherboard. If the computer is turned off, the power button doesn't turn the computer on. However, I discovered a way to turn the computer on that is consistent but a pain. Keep in mind that this is the only way I can turn this PC on. I have to turn the PSU off, hold the power button on the case for about 10 seconds, and simultaneously switch the PSU on and the press the power button on the case at the same time. At this point, everything runs fine as a normal PC would. I can put the computer to sleep, revive it from sleep, press the power butting to turn it off again, run my SLI GTX 570's at full capacity all day, and the computer does fine. Clearly I am getting power from the PSU.

So what on earth is going on? I just moved all of my parts to another case thinking it was the case, however, I got everything installed in a new case, same exact problem. Does that make it the motherboard? Your help is very much appreciated!

I would first suspect bad power button or connections but you moving to a different case ruled that out. So the two things next are the power supply or the motherboard like you said, it's really a toss-up as to what you can test first, although trying a different power supply is a lot easier than a new motherboard and easier to find a spare. See if you can borrow a PSU from a friend to test it.

Unfortunately I don't have any close-by PC gaming friends. If it was the power supply, wouldn't I have issues with power all around? I agree though, I don't really want to rip the motherboard out again unless I am replacing it, PSU is much easier to test. Other than those two things, could it be anything else?

Nothing I can think of outside a button/cable issue. I've seen this odd thing happen to a Dell a co-worker had me look at, it turned on really oddly, sometimes it would take two hits of the power button to turn on, sometimes one, sometimes it would not turn on unless I left it sitting for a few hours.

After I got new Windows on it like she asked me to and got it back to her, it stopped turning on at all for her. I did not get it back yet to look at but I'm guessing the power supply went out.

We tested the PSU with a fan and have power. Seems like it is a good bet that the problem is the motherboard. Any other suggestions?

The power supply may be running but may not be running properly. Make sure the 110/240 switch is all the way to the side and not stuck in the middle of the two options. Try unplugging the system from wall power, remove the CMOS battery for 10 seconds to reset the BIOS and hold in the power button for a few seconds. Replace the battery, plug in and see if it works better after that.

I finally figured it out. I decided to get a new motherboard to try to fix my issue. The only nice SLI capable motherboard that runs an LGA 1155 socket for a reasonable price is the ASRock z77 Extreme 4. Putting a new motherboard in fixed the issue entirely. Apparently they are phasing the LGA 1155 gaming motherboards out. Its too bad because my i7-2600k still works great. I have had it overclocked at 4.5 Ghz/sec for a long time now and see no reason to upgrade.
