Be warned, wall of text incoming. There is a 'too long, didn't read' section at the bottom in case the details don't matter.
So, there's these two pieces of software sitting on an old PC still running Windows XP. (The software works in tandem with a printer used to print text on ribbons and labels.) The company we bought the software and printer from came to our house to install all the necessities, so we don't have an installation disc or product key. Recently, we kindly asked them if it was possible to transfer the software from the old computer to a newer one, since, well, Windows XP isn't all that safe anymore and the computer itself is nearing the end of its lifespan. They said it would cost us 500 EUR, we said "no thanks".
Now, the printer turned out to be a product from a third party, so ater downloading the latest driver, it works just fine.
The software, however, is something else entirely. First, I simply tried copying the executables from Program Files and paste them in the same folder in the other computer. Obviously, that didn't work, as I had tons 'missing dll' errors. I looked through all the files in the designated map in Program Files (which weren't all that many) and noticed a text document named 'ST6UNST'. Apparently, this is a bootstrapper log file listing everything the software installed on your computer, including all .dll and .ocx files. So, I went into system32, copied everything on the list, put everything in place on the new computer and then used the cmd window to register everything.
After doing this, I can finally start up the programs. However, while one works perfectly, the other one asks for a product key. I've already tried using a program that detects product keys (Belarc Advisor), but it didn't find the key for that particular program.
tl;dr : Is there any way of finding out the product key of an already installed piece of software, taking in account that Belarc Advisor didn't work?
I appreciate any help you can give me!
