120mm fan w/ 92mm holes in the same fashion as a 140mm with 120mm holes

So there are plenty 140mm fans out there with 120mm fan mounting holes. I'm wondering if anyone knows of any fans that are a form factor down from that: 120mm w/ 92mm mounting holes?

I'm aware of such adapters and am afraid those are my only option. Ideally I'd like to not add any height with any such adapter as opposed to just having the mounting holes.

When you look at the adapter, I don't know how a 120mm fan could have 92mm holes. They would generally be inside the arc of the blades. The function that adapter plate accomplishes -- acting like a funnel would have to be built-in to the fan otherwise there would be 15mm of the fan blades extending over the metal case. That 15mm of fan blades wouldn't move any air.
