I'm looking for some upgraded ram, and can get a really good price on some 8gb sticks of Corsair Vengeance, DDR3 1866MHz, CMZ32GX3M4X1866C10R.

This would go with an asus p8z68 v-pro, and i7 2600k cpu. I know the ram is overkill for this system. The ram is also quad channel, and my board I believe is only dual channel. The main question is, would it even work? I'm not sure if my board can even go above 1600. Would it just run this ram at 1600, or would this crash the system?

I can pick it up cheaper than the "proper" kit for my motherboard, so if it'd still work, I could use it now, and still have some good ram on standby for any future upgrades.

Solution
It should work just fine, your MB supports 1866. A quad channel kit is 4 sticks matched to work together, just plug them in, set the XMP profile in the BIOS that it reads off of the sticks and you should have 32GB of DRAM to enjoy.
