Hi to everyone i'm new here. I don't know too much about PC Hardware but i want to build a gaming PC. I currently own the PS4 and the Xbox One and i honestly got bored from them as there is nothing new. I want to experience more games so I want to "rebuild" my pc. I want to spend 750$ or 800$ MAX. This is the current combination I made:
Processor:
- Intel Core i5-4690 Processor (6M Cache, 3.90 GHz)
Graphic Card:
- MSI GTX 970 Gaming 4G Graphics Cards
Motherboard:
- MSI ATX DDR3 2600 LGA 1150 Motherboards Z97 GAMING 5
Memory Ram:
- Corsair Vengeance 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 1600 MHz (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory

So far: 830$ I don't want to spend too much but what do you think? If it's worth it then I would go ahead and purchase them.
Is the motherboard a good one? The processor for gaming? The graphic card? I want to run GTA V but i don't want it to look like the Xbox One or the PS4. Will this combination give me more graphics? Oh I also plan getting BF Hardline and Arma3. Thank you!
PS: Please if you have any sugestion if I should buy another graphic card instead of that one maybe like this one:
- MSI Computer Graphics Cards GTX 960 GAMING 100ME
Also is MSI a good brand? Thanks! :)

With the non-K CPU you don't really need a Z97 mobo (unless maybe planning an upgrade to a K or further down the road to the Broadwell CPUs, so could save some money there and go a H97 mobo, something like the Asus H97 Plus would save you about $50, which could go to a PSU if needed (with the 970 GPU will want at least a good 500 watt that has 28AMPs on the 12 volt rail

I don't plan to upgrade this no more I just want a decent gaming PC but better than the PS4/XboxOne. So i could go with this motherboard? A friend of mine told me that MSI is one of the best brands! The problem with this motherboard is that it doesn't work with the graphic card I want to buy

But if it's ok I can get those 30$ I already have a power suply and the hard drive I will get it in my country since its cheaper.

What about the performance/graphics in game? First of all I just want to run these games:
Arma3:

For $13 just get the 4690k. You may not want to overclock now but in the future when system starts to feel a little sluggish, a 2nd GFX card and a CPU OC can get ya another 18-24 months of system life.

Motherboard is one of the best gaming MoBos out there. Highly recommended.

29134249871l.jpg

http://www.overclock3d.net/reviews/cpu_mainboard/msi_z97_gaming_5_motherboard_review/15

Putting out a 4.9GHz overclock on our i7-4770K is excellent, especially when compared to the Gigabyte Gaming 5, and doing so whilst maintaining a 2933MHz XMP setting on the DDR3 is very impressive for such a value package. The results certainly bore this out with the Gaming 5 up near the top of our graphs in nearly every test, and even those where it wasn't amongst the front runners it certainly wasn't a mile behind either.

If there is one area that the MSI Z97 Gaming 5 shone, it's in the 3D tests. It was pretty much at the top of our graphs in all versions of 3D Mark, Unigine, and even the gaming benchmarks showed the excellent performance available from this black and red beauty.

It's amazing how far a good value motherboard has come in design terms. It was only the last generation where you would expect a £100 and some change motherboard to come with multi-coloured plastics, vertical SATA ports, and maybe a couple of USB ports. With the MSI Gaming 5 you're getting an all-black look both with the PCB and plastics, with a little red on the heatsink, audio separation line and audio label. We think it looks fabulous.

..... It has excellent performance, great looks, superb pricing.......the Gaming 5 hits all the sweet spots and for that reason wins our OC3D Gold Award.

GFX Card again is one of the best 970s out there alongside the Gigabyte G1.... dropping from the 970 tot he 960 is a big drop. The MSI substantially outperforms the Asus and EVGA offerings for reasons detailed in the tear down review here:

http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/graphics/2014/09/19/nvidia-geforce-gtx-970-review/14

The 970 has been so popular. In just 6 months since release it's become the 8th most used DX11 GPU and 3 of the ones ahead of it are Intel Integrated GFX. Among discreet cards, it trails only the GTX 650, 660, 760, 770 and GT630 in sales.

As for the RAM, you an find 1866, 2133 and even sometimes 2400 RAM at the same price or so close to it that it's a "no brainer"

Id also suggest getting "low profile" so it doesn't hit any 3rd party CPU cooler you might choose to add.

For storage Id suggest a Mushkin Eco 240 GB SSD ($85) and 2 TB SSHD ($101) so as to provide SSD like performance on all ya games.... even the ones that don't fit on the SSD

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822178380

And EVGA B2 PSU @ 750 watts ($60) and a Phanteks Enthoo Pro should complete the picture.

Thank you very much for answering! I'm already loving this forum and i'm looking forward to learn more things here. So you sugest me to stick with my combination just change the processor for the 4690k? How much should I expect in terms of graphics for a game like GTA V?

Thank you for answering again. My first fear when I woke up today with gains to build a gaming PC it was the compatibility thing. The list you made is 100% compatible? How much should I expect from it? Graphics and performance? Better than Xbox/PS4?

Also what do you thing about this setup:
http://pcpartpicker.com/p/YjyHQ7 I saw that setup in a Youtube video but I feel more confident with better graphic card

@PugnaQ here's a better choice in my opinion. You can just remove the parts you don't need or already have but please make sure you buy a reputable and trusted Power Supply, it is a very important part of your system. At least get 80+ Bronze and from a good brand like corsair or seasonic. Other than that, here is the best bang for the buck that could address your needs.

If you stick with the original CPU the H97 you list from MSI will work and should have no compatibility issues with the 970 GPU...MSI is the 4th largest seller of mobos, behind Asus, GB and the Rock, I myself won't use them. Also like Jack said can go ahead and get the K model and stick with what you have if it all fits in the budget, having the K, months down the road you can pick up a decent/good CPU cooler, start OCing and it's like getting a free CPU upgrade ;)

Hi thank you for answering Jomari. I really like your setup and is cheaper than mine! Can you tell me what's the difference between your processor and mine? Will affect gameplay? Also MSI would be compatible with AS Rock motherboard? Thank you :)

I wasn't done with my post so go back and take a peek. Your original CPU wasn't overclockable, $13 more adds overclocking.... the k series processor will rake you from 3.9 GHz to 4.6 or more Ghz

The MSI MoBo / GFX card combo is a great one.... Although Motherboards generally don't chnage GFX performance that much, you an see that we see that the $150 MSI Gaming 5 has a 17% advantage (Hitman) over the $215 Asus Hero. Forget the performance difference and note that you are getting comparable perfoprmance to a board that costs almost 50% more money.

MSI's GD65 was referred to in reviews as the best Z87 board but in giving it their Editor's Choice" award, Techpowerup writes that the Gaming 5:

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/MSI/Z97_GAMING_5/12.html

directly targets gamers with the features they need and nothing else. From the included features and software and down to the physical design and esthetics, the MSI Z97 Gaming 5 offers everything you need from Intel's latest and a 6-month premium subscription for XSplit, so you can stream all that butt-kicking online for everyone to see. Add in the board's retail price of around $160 and you are looking at a pretty mean product with decent features, for a decent price.

I cannot emphasize how impressed I am with the drive performance on all interfaces enough, or how good the audio is, although my testing equipment did not register much of a difference with the provided Audio Boost feature enabled. I think I heard a difference, but that might just be me imagining things. The audio design is pretty darn good without it, and moving the power supply to a molex plug rather than the 24-pin plug makes me happy anyway. I did not really think MSI would be able to one-up themselves and their Z87 designs, but they definitely have done a decent job with this platform, and I am excited to see more of what they have to offer.

Given the quality of your selected components, my goal in presenting the other parts was in balancing the system and leaving no component that stood out as being "less than" the other products in the build.

As far as GTA V it'd not generally a game you see in many tests, it's hard to say but you an compare the GTX 970 to other cards in 17 games here:

https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/MSI/GTX_970_Gaming/6.html

You'll note that the MSi 970 also won the Editor's Choice award from Techpowerup.

But check this out

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=60sO_89bbuc

I'd definitely up the RAM speed as it costs next to nothing and the availability of the EVGA B2 750 watters at $60 gives you future SLI upgrade capability a no cost option (outside the card ofc) for the same price of most decent 500 watters.

Actually, they both will perform about the same.
My build has got dual channel RAM and a better case and that build has got a SLIGHTLY better mobo and cpu.
Not to forget my build is the cheapest of the 3 builds posted here.

@PugnaQ good question :)

Main difference of i5-4460 and i5-4690 would be clock speed, but when it comes to gaming, it has little effect since most of the work is being done by your videocard, well except for the games that are cpu-dependent, mostly RTS games i think. here's a link why the 4460 is sufficient enough for gaming needs: "http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-cpu-review-overclock,3106-3.html" if you have time please do read it so you would have at least an idea as to why i chose that cpu.

Regarding the motherboard, brands are really not an issue, most videocards are compatible as long as the slot is. So no need to worry about that, ASRock are quite a good brand when it comes to mobos, not as good as ASUS but still would provide more than enough for your needs, and since you're not gonna be overclocking anything, that H97 mobo is the best price/performance.

I already have a Case brother! So my actual setup is good? I will attach an image down so you can see how much i will end up paying and if you have any sugestion for me to change in my cart. I have already added the processor you said the K version. Even though i don't understand what is overclocking lol :(

Looks good but the RAM is off..... it's dual channel memory which means you buy RAM in pairs.

If ya want 2 x 8GB, I'd opt for the Mushkin Redine 2133 CAS 9 at $139

If ya want 2 x 4GB, the Ripjaws looks like the best buy atm at $72

Please do take note that @PugnaQ has a budget of $800 MAX. And since he has no intention of overclocking, i really don't think he needs to get a K proc. His main concern is gaming, so let's address that issue alone.

I'll add another ram then. I have this monitor: Samsung S22B300N Runs 1920 x 1080 60Hz should I get another one? If i have to I will have to wait a few weeks to get the money. But the current setup would work?

Main difference of i5-4460 and i5-4690 would be clock speed, but when it comes to gaming, it has little effect since most of the work is being done by your videocard, well except for the games that are cpu-dependent, mostly RTS games i think. here's a link why the 4460 is sufficient enough for gaming needs: "http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-cpu-review-o..." if you have time please do read it so you would have at least an idea as to why i chose that cpu.

You mean Z97 or H97? I have these two options number one - number two

You need a monitor that goes over 60hz in 1080p or is 1440p+ too or all the GPU in the world is for not.
I have Samsung S22B300N Runs 60Hz 1920 x 1080

Forgot to mention: I can only buy stuff from Amazon becuz I have the money inside my Gift Card balance and I rather purchase items with prime :(

No, you can NOT add another RAM..... you must buy 2 sticks in the same package that are tested and guaranteed to work together.

I would disagree that CPU is a no matter thing. The most obvious indication is games like BF4 where single player is fine and multiplayer is CPU heavy.

Also H97 means no SLI and no overclocking, you have a 750 watt PSU so as to provide the ability to add a 2nd card later on down the road tyo increase performance up to 95% ..... but with H97, that's not going to be an option.

Neither is any significant overclocking. The 4690 does 3.9 Ghz....and it ends there.... the 4690k with a decent cooler will hit 4.6 Ghz .... that's 18% faster.... you'll note in the article above, they hit 4.9 Ghz.

The main difference between a Z97 vs H97 would be overclockability, since i suggested an i5-4460 which is a non-OC proc, then go with the H97 gaming 3, it's basically the same. And honestly, if you don't know how to OC, don't waste money on buying OC items, you can learn and research about OC'ing , but for me, it's too fiddly plus you do void your warranty if you OC, so most likely you'll do that after 3yrs more or less, because now the system will handle most, if not all games smoothly, and by that time, you have enough money to upgrade again. really up to you, but my two cents, go with the 4460 plus H97 mobo, the one that drives the games is mainly the MSI GTX 970 videocard anyway.

Be realistic bruh, the things you are recommending are for quite advanced users/overclockers. even mentioning SLI when he got 22" monitor? Come on, he wouldn't be asking here in the first place about system building if he already knew that stuff. Do take into consideration that he came from console gaming, so please do not overwhelm our friend here with advanced tech stuff. Those things he can research and it will take some time, but in addressing the concern he has now, i guess we should stick to that.
