Hello Tom's,

I was trying to help someone make a new build and this is what we came up with,

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/TGtT3C

The case will be, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811353066

and the OS will hopefully be win7 and the cpu will be cooled using the stock cooler.

I was just wondering if there would be any compatibility issues, or better parts I could acquire for

the purposes the system is to be used for. For background; My budget is 1.5k USD and the system will be used for primarily

gaming, but will be running multiple instances of a game nearly 24/7, there are no plans to OC the

system in the foreseeable future and modern games will be played very rarely, so the GPU will

probably be at 1-20% load, all the time. The game is also very old and utilizes only one core, so a

high clock rate is a must and since there will be multiple instances of the game running, cpu usage

will be 50%+ for 24/7.

Solution
no the stock cooler provided is not sufficient for the 4790K running any kind of heavy loads. i personally had turbo disabled on mine in order to keep my cpu under 85-90 C during heavy loads such as when encoding a video. i recommend at least a CM 212 Evo or equivalent just to keep the temps more manageable on a long term basis.

for the case, i would get something better that has better airflow, and dust filters. running constantly like that will suck a lot of air and dust and require more maintenance to keep your system running smoothly. the define r4 might be expensive, but you get what you pay for. it's very quiet (something that may or may not be an issue) and also the dust filters have kept the internals of my system practically...

i suggest going with a pentium g3258. it's a dual core, but can overclock as high or higher than the i7. since you only need one fast core, no point spending so much on the i7. you're paying for the extra core capabilities that you don't need. here, this build would be better (even if the CPU is the cheapest component in the build)

Okay, sorry I wasn't being very clear, when I meant run multiple instances of the game, I meant like 10+, so

for comparison, on the system I have now, which is an i7 3700k oced to 4.5ghz, running 20 clients of the game

would put me

at 85-90% cpu usage and 15gigs~ of ram and since the game is leaky 22~ over a couple days, the game is also bottlenecked by cpu, so I would be getting 40 fps even though my 760 gtx is at

10-20% load. So basically, I need enough threads to run many instances of the game, but I also need high single core

performance for when I use only one client for in-game events where I need the fps boost. Also the new system will not

be OC'ed so is a aftermarket cooler really necessary? although the cpu will be at rather high loads 24/7, but I was hoping

the stock would be enough for that, and is there a problem with the case? Aesthetics is not really an issue here.

the corsair cx series is poor quality. if you will be ordering soon (if you haven't already) this antec TPC 750 gold is a far superior unit. very well worth the money, and if you don't mind rebates, its also cheaper

a lot of people forget that the PSU is probably the most important component to a system, because when it fails, everything else fails with it. in some cases it can actually irreparably damage the other components as well. it's like sugar in a gas tank
