I was wondering if I had a PC3-12800 240-pin RAM stick already installed into my motherboard (Asus A55BM-A) could i just buy any other RAM as long as its 1600mhz and 240 pin? Here are some screenshots on my RAM

You can try - there are no guarantees that mixing any packages of DRAM will play together, even if matched the same exact model that you already have - best to get a single package of the amount you want and then if the old will play - it's a bonus, else can use old in another rig or sell it off ;)

It needs to be DDR3 (for pin count and layout) but it does not need to be 1600 MHz, the system will configure the faster RAM to run at the slower RAM speed, for instance, if you buy a 1866 MHz stick, it will run at 1600 MHz. If you buy a 1333 MHz stick your current stick will step down to 1333 MHz to match.

For best performance, you should buy a 1600 MHz stick or faster with the same latencies or better.
Usually, from an economic perspective, the best choice is to go with the same ram you already have.

and hope the mixed DRAM will play nice ;) The forums are full of threads of mixing DRAM failures
