Yes, the cooler should have a clip on either side that hooks unto the nubs on those brackets. The there's a lever on one side of the cooler that you swing over to secure it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MzZQgJDyzGI

So mobos are possible to NOT come with the retention bracket?
I bought this:

, and it doesn't have any form of mounting bracket. The fan I'm using can stock from another computer and the bracket on the other motherboard is very securely held by an adhesive to the under-side of the mobo.
Can I buy a micro ATX fan bracket sold separately?

That motherboard is for Intel processors, not AMD processors. Intel processors use a different cooler mounting arrangement. If you bought an AM3+ cooler as you stated in the beginning, it won't fit that board. Maybe we better back up a bit and start over.

No, no different user. I'm going from a LGA1150 mATX to another LGA1150 mATX board. I actually did find some retention brackets, however they're for 755 models, which are very similar, but not exact. I'm asking if you can refer me to any site that might supply what I need. And yes I'm using an Intel CPU: i7 4770k

Intel doesn't use retention brackets. AMD uses a retention bracket to mount their cooler to. Intel uses a pushpin mounting that needs no retention bracket. If you are using the stock Intel cooler, it comes with all you need. If you are using a 3rd party cooler, it will come with hdwr. for mounting to whatever socket it is designed for.
All LGA 11xx and 775 socket cooler mounting patterns are the same.

Yea sorry about that haha Thanks, it seems I will need to pick up a 775 then. The plate for the cooler I'm using is attached to the previous board very firmly. Do I need to glue the plate on like the previous board?

I'm not sure what you are referring to. Plate? Glued on? The stock cooler has 4 twist-turn tabs you turn, pull up on, and release to lift off the cooler. If you've done that but can't get the cooler free, it is simply because the thermal paste is holding it to the CPU. Simply twist the cooler a bit back and forth to break the seal.
If we are not on the same page here, maybe you can post a pic of what you are referring to.

OK. That's what I was wondering. Your old PC was an OEM with a goofy proprietary designed cooler and mounting. Your new board is retail and is like most other boards, in so much as it is designed for the stock Intel cooler or an aftermarket cooler of the Intel design.
Apparently you are moving the CPU from the OEM machine to the new machine. Don't bother with the OEM cooler. Either pick up a new/used stock Intel cooler from someplace like ebay, or find an after market cooler for the 1150 socket. Then sell the old board and cooler as a unit. One is no good w/o the other.
The old backplate is either stuck on or like you say they used and adhesive. best not to try to remove it unless you know for sure it has no adhesive on it.

I did all of this to put in a gtx 960...this will probably be the most expensive graphics card I'll ever buy -_- I appreciate it, mate.
