Hello ladies and gents. This will be the second computer I've built in my life, and the first one was 10+ years ago. So I really don't know anything. I would love some input and criticism of my build. This pc will mainly be used for 1440p and maybe 4k gaming(not maxed settings) and maybe a little editing. Trying to stay around 1300- 1400 budget. Thanks in advance. Ill probably be using windows 7, until windows 10 comes out.

Cpu- i7 4790k
Gpu- Gigabyte G1 gaming gtx 970
Mobo- Asus Maximus VII Hero
Ram- Corsair Vengeance 8gb 240pin ddr3 1600
Psu- Evga Supernova g2 750w
SSD- Intel 730 240gb. It's 90 bucks off otherwise i would of probably got a samsung
Case- Nzxt S340, is it big enough? Open to other ideas. Preferably something similar in looks.
Cooling- Corsair h105 240mm

I wouldn't go with 1600mhz RAM on that build. Faster RAM won't give you any magnitudes of greater performance for gaming, but it will give you SOME performance increase, plus other processes and applications are likely to benefit more thoroughly from it. You CPU and motherboard both support faster modules, configurable by setting the XMP profile in the BIOS, and I'd recommend going with 2133mhz, or at least 1866mhz, which isn't usually terribly different in price. Aside from that, and the fact that you're not really gaining anything on gaming performance by going with the i7 over the i5 or Xeon E3 v3 chips, which are much less expensive, yet still process 8 threads, it looks really solid as Luco said.

The Enthoo Pro IS a good case, and I thought about making that recommendation, but the S340 is ALSO a damn good case. The Thermaltake Core V51, V71 or Phanteks Enthoo Luxe are also all worth checking out. I do like the S340 though if you don't need an internal optical drive.

I don't think the H105 is overkill if you have an aversion to tall air coolers. I don't think liquid is necessary, but it's also not overkill if you're trying for aesthetics or just want the room to work.

Thanks for the replies guys. I will definitely take into consideration the faster ram. I was contemplating if I should just do an i5 build instead since I will mainly be gaming .This will save me about 300 bucks. Will the i7 build be much more future proof? What do you guys think?
Cpu- i5 4690k
Gpu- Gigabyte G1 gaming gtx 970
Mobo- Asus Z97-A
Ram- Corsair Vengeance 8gb 240pin ddr3 1600
Psu- Evga Supernova g2 750w ( I may sli in the future)
SSD- Intel 730 240gb.
Case Nzxt s340
Cooling- stock cpu cooler untill i decide to OC

The i5 is fine, for now, simply because there are few games that require more than 4 thread capability. That may change going forward as games are optimized for more and more threads. If you can afford the i7, and want as much longevity out of it as possible, get more than you need now, so you don't have to do this again in three years time.

Otherwise, the 4690k is fine. If you don't plan to overclock, and go with an i5, just get the 4690 non-k and an H97 motherboard like the H97-Plus. H97 doesn't support SLI or overclocking though, so if you plan to do either of those things, stick with Z97 and a K chip.

I went ahead and ordered the i7 build. It was my first build in so many years so I splurged a little. I went with the 1866 ram. Now i just have to hope newegg has it ready to pick up at will call before I have to go to work ;).

INTEL I7-4790K
GIGABYTE GV-N970G1 GAMING-4GD GeForce GTX 970 4GB
ASUS MAXIMUS VII HERO LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA
SAMSUNG 850 EVO-Series MZ-75E500B/AM 2.5" 500GB
CORSAIR Vengeance Pro 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3
EVGA SuperNOVA 750 G2 220-G2-0750-XR 750W ATX12V /
NZXT H440 STEEL Mid Tower Case.

I still need to buy a cpu cooler, but need to do some more research on what fits best with the h440 case. I wont be Overclocking till i get that. Thanks for the input guys.

Looks solid, you won't need to OC for a while with that rig anyway as the chip comes out of the factory at 4ghz with a 4.4 turbo

However, the stock cooler isn't brilliant. It will do, but it ain't great. Your case has a whopping 180mm cooler clearance, I'm not even sure if any air coolers exist that are as tall as that. The Phanteks PH-TC14PE would fit, and is available in colors to match your motherboard. The Cryorig R1 ultimate is also a superb, quiet air cooler.
