I would sacrifice resolution anyday for great game, however if it required getting more work done efficiently then a few extra monitors would do, but:
--
5760/1080/1440/4k (yeah it's impressive when watching it directly as movie, especially something like transformers as the prime example of ultra sharp visuals.)Understanding the argument with games, as one person would assume "it's a personal choice" regardless being anything more worth really talking about; it's just silly;(i cannot speak for most people) because when i play old school games it was when games were interesting and reasonably polished to the viewers eye; while far from fidelity or sharpness but more along the lines as appealing to the eye far below 1080p
--
Anyhows the point is, when i choose to optimise and scale my resolution, do i notice any difference; sure mostly marginal; and would i say it's worth it? well i would leave that for you to decide money or no money, being a sole decision.
--
If you argue a consoles resolutions more important then the tap water from your own bathroom sink, i'd say your crazy because you would be if you compare resolutions.
--
When it comes to competition, and someone else has resolution greater than yours, sure your going to get massacred that is if you can handle that resolution ON PC rather than on console..

"(Not a rant)"

Actually, what you are doing would fit the Merriam - Webster's dictionary interpretation of ranting.

Oh and I pronounce Tomato as TomAto, with a long sounding 'A'. Not Tomato, with a short sounding 'a'. That would be silly and wrong, everybody knows that.
(Sarcastic analogy)

The main benefit of increasing resolution is you can get away with less Anti-Aliasing, which is the fastest way to tank performance. You also have the benefit of using higher resolution textures (if they exist) without downscaling, which will show a much more marked benefit.
