Best Full Disk Encryption Software

I'm in college taking computer forensics courses and I was wondering what the best software for full disk encryption is. I am using BitLocker currently but i'm unsure if it actually protects against forensics software like FTK. What i'm basically asking is what software is the best of the best that protects against FTK and various forensics software.

[strike]The best solution I think may be a hardware based solution. Intel 320/520 series SSDs have built in AES256 encryption. All you need to do is set a ATA password to your laptop.

Hardware encryption like the method Intel used has the benefit of not having any user perceivable overhead unlike software solutions. It's also arguably harder to circumvent because it's at a lower level than software solutions. [/strike]

Edit: sorry I didn't see you were specifically asking for software solutions...
