Hard drive question.

Hello everyone, Just a quick question...

I am currently running a Seagate Barracuda 1tb HDD that has all my files and Windows 8 on. I was just wondering what would I need to do If I ever needed another hard drive just for internal storage? Would I just plug a new one into a new SATA or will I have to configure it?

Thanks

Solution
Pretty simple:

Plug it in with SATA and SATA power.
Turn PC on, then make a partition to the drive.
After formatting your ready to use it!

here's how i would do it:
-> buy HDD
-> shut down system
-> unplug system
-> wait a bit, and in the meantime touch something grounded like a radiator or a sink to discharge any electrostatic charge from your body
-> mount & plug in the HDD, Sata & Power ( you can't put the wrong cable in the wrong hole only one cable fits one hole. make sure to have a sata cable, most harddisks don't come with that cable. maybe you got a spare one or else buy one)
-> reassemble your pc, turn it on and windows should find the disk as soon as you boot to your desktop. i'm not 100% sure but maybe you'll see it in your explorer already and can format it via right click or you should find it inside disk management (you can probably find it by searching "disk management" from your metro desktop) as an unpartitioned disk. right click -> and format.
-> voilá, you got yourself a new storage for whatever data you come across

Partition's is what makes the HDDs work. :D

Go to disk management, either by control panel or windows search on the start menu/charms bar.
Then right click the drive that does not have a drive letter, then go to add volume. Just make sure it's NTFS and pick your drive letter then that's it.

Thanks!
