I have been recently searching for a new graphics card in the higher quality end. I have had few options and some time to think about it and it has come down to 2 graphics cards. An EVGA gtx 970 4GB Superclocked ACX 2.0 and the ASUS r9 290x 4GB DirectCU II OC. After seeing some benchmarks I can tell that both graphics card are somewhat similar performance wise. I would like to know which one would be best/easiest to overclock because I'm planning to get out as much performance as I can from my new GPU. At the moment there is a great deal on the 290x, about $310 (23% discount), and the gtx comes in at $335. Any advice or opinions on the cards would be greatly appreciated. Below I have my current build a links to the 2 graphics cards. Thank you for your time!
My Rig:
CPU: Intel i5 3770k
Storage: Kingston 120GB SSD (OS)
1 TB WD hard drive (Games)
500 GB Seagate (Backup)
Motherboard: MSI Z77 G43
GPU: EVGA gtx 770 2GB
PSU: Antec 550W
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 8GB
Links to GPU's I'm interested in:

GTX 970 avg. OC = +223 / +409 Boost
(Gigabyte G1, MSI Gaming, Asus Strix, Palit Jetstream, Galax EXOC Black)...
Depends on the cooler that's being used... The two you posted, the GTX 970 will probably overclock better...

ShadowR34per, remember that the VRM on the card also influences its overclock. If pretty much any GTX 970 is stacked against a Vapor-X R9 290x, the Vapor-X will definitely beat it.

Maxwell may be more efficient, but does it put out less heat? I'm sorry to use this thread, but I just don't get GPU overclocking.
Also 17seconds, your profile is creepin me out!
