My 2 cents. Save your money if you have a decent card right now. 270x/960 range give or take for 1080p. Upgrading you won't see a big difference, if you plan on upgrading your monitor a year from now, save the graphics card money til then, you never know when new stuff is coming out, and that way you can get not only what you can afford, but the best available at the time, who knows, next gen AMD might blow the doors off the 290X at 4k resolutions. Games are always more demanding, and everyone can speculate on what might be good a year from now, but the only safe bet is that your money will still be good. If you're not happy with performance right now at your current resolution, then you upgrade. Buy the best you can afford, and if you have something pretty good and want more, get a second, but don't guess that something great will be great next year. It won't be, guarantee it. I went from a 4870x512Mb (Was the best when I got it) to a 5770x1Gb cause my cat peed on my computer, I paid 250 for my 4870, and 110 a year and a half later for the equivalent 5770 with more RAM. That's just the way it is. The 6770 was a 5770 rebadge, so that still worked, then I got a 7870XT which was a big improvement over the 5770. My little brother bought me a pair of 290Xs for crossfire cause he got a handful for coin mining, and at the time you could make money on it, so when I wasn't gaming, I was mining. Those are still going strong today, I still want a pair of 980s though. Won't buy then, OP for 1080p, even my cards are OP for 1080p, but I have a 120hz monitor and some of the more demanding games I play hit the 80s and average in the high 50s. I think what people are trying to tell you is, you'll be happier at 1080p with a decent framerate than at 4k at 25 - 30 FPS. Just stuff to think on.
