I was playing a game last night when there was a sudden power failure, something had tripped the switch for the upstairs electricity sockets. After flipping it back on the computer wouldn't boot and doesn't show any signs of receiving power when plugged in (lights, fans, etc).

I built this PC 6 months ago with all new parts so this is very worrying for me. The PSU is a Corsair RM650 and the motherboard is a MSI 970 Gaming. I don't think the other components are relevant but if you need to know just ask. I've tried replacing the power supply cable, using different electricity sockets that I know work and praying to Hanuman by my indian friends suggestion. None of this has worked so far. I wanted to try the paperclip PSU test but my motherboard connection wires are all black so I was too worried to try since I couldn't tell which wires were what.

I'm really not sure what to do next, I need this PC for my university work due next week so having to replace a part would be a real pain. Any advice?

Send the psu back to the place where you got it. If you still have warranty. If not ask a friend to borrow their psu (not a good idea :p) or if you have one laying around, use it. If its only e.g 300w and yours is 500w then take out the gpu, hdds and usb stuff like mouse keyboard and etc.
