I've been searching through all the similar posts but nothing quite fits me.

Running Windows 8.1 and Asus H81M-E mobo.

PC running just fine. I wanted to take one of my drives out of my NAS and put it into my PC (giving my NAS slot to my son) The HDD (Western Digital, 1 TB) only has data (Acronis backups) on it and was running fine in the NAS (Linksys DNS-321)

I put the this drive in my PC. It's listed in the bios under SATA configuration, but when I go to the main screen in the bios (or rather, UEFI bios utility), and go to boot priority, it is not listed.

Meanwhile, in Windows I see it in Device manager, and in Disk management (I assume that's what's now listed as "Device 0) but it doesn't display in My Computer so I can't access it in Windows.

I do NOT want to reformat the drive and lose everything, I just want to be able to access this as a 2nd HDD used for data.

Thanks!

I can't assign a drive letter in Disk mgt, the choices are all grayed out. :(
Re: the NAS.....you could be right. Hrmph. Do you think if I cleared out one of my hdd in the NAS, that I could connect it to my PC mobo and then format it? I guess I'll try unless someone has another suggestion?

anything you can suggest to save me time and get me up and running again....I really appreciate. I got a 3 TB drive for my son (major data user) and I told him I'd put it in the NAS (should just make him install it in his PC....would that be better?) so he can do regular backups, and I'd take one of the drives out and move it to my PC. I thought it would be straightforward!

Thanks so much. You guys (gals?) are GREAT. (I'm a sailorcaptain who is a girl )
