I have a 5820k OC'd 4.3 a GTX 970 OC'd with MSI Afterburner (+15v / 105% power / +220core / +545 memory / 75% fan speed) 8 gigs of DDR4 2133 a Gigabyte G1 x99 3 with a 600W PSU not sure what brand PSU.

I had been gaming on it with these specs without overheating on the CPU or the GPU. Put my computer into sleep mode which I don't normally use I usually shut it down over night. I came out this morning and found it on rather than sleeping and windows update running so I guess that woke it. Point being, there were black squares all over my screen until I rebooted and I am not sure what could be the cause. I issued an RMA for the GPU to be on the safe side but I would like to know the cause so I can prevent it from happening again.

After changing settings on the GPU OC I was able to create artifacts or remove them based on the memory clock at least that is what seemed to be effecting it but I don't know enough to know if the other settings are major factors.

Thank you for any and all help.

Don't overclock your GPU enough to cause artificating. After a period of time it may damange the GPU. Have you stress tested your GPU and monitored temps. I wouldn't just play with volts and power unless you have ensured the card is stable and cool enough.

I ran it in furmark and it didn't overheat or cause artifacts then. It seemed to happen and then not happen even under the same stress. I have been watching the temps and it doesn't go above 78c . I was wondering if my power supply may be the issue with the 5820k CPU running at 4.3. I turned the voltage down to 10 and the power% to 100 the clock is now 155 core and 245 mem. Seems to be ok at the moment..
