Hello, experts!

I'm a novice designing a budget desktop build because my laptop won't run Star Citizen, and I want to play that game!

I'm looking at CPUs in the price range of the AMD FX 6300 and the Intil i3 4330 / 4350. Most of what I'm finding says that the i3, with only two cores, is better for gaming. Also (and PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong on this) it appears to me that the mobo for a Haswell i3 will offer a vastly superior upgrade path compared to the AM3+ mobo for the AMD processor.

My dilemma is that the system requirements for Star Citizen specify at least a quad core processor. Does anyone have any insight as to whether the i3 with only two cores and Hyperthreading will perform well in this game? Assume something along the lines of an R9 270 gpu please.

Thank you

You can fly around a little bit but nothing is optimized very well right now which will make a lower tier system feel even more sluggish. I don't get very good performance in the dog fight module/hangar module as it sits right now. You can see my specs in my signature. I would expect the final game to perform much better than what we have right now.
Since star citizen has quite a bit of time to go until it is released I recommend saving up until you can afford a system that can really handle that game.

You are going to want at least an intel i5 processor and a GPU similar to a GTX 970 or R9 290.

The parts that you have thrown out there will give you sub par results and I get the feeling you won't be too happy with it.

Thank you both for taking the time to answer. It was my understanding that the single player campaign and some modules of the multi-player are available in alpha right now.
