So I'm looking to upgrade my 270X to a GTX 960. I'm not really happy with my 270x. But Im only running 1280x1024 res. should I upgrade to 1080p or get the 960 and sell my 270x then grab a 1080p moniter?

I was in the same boat, i has a MSI 270x and i had massive stuttering issues. Finally decided to make the jump to Nvidia for my next card and im very happy with the GTX 960.

The gtx 960 would easly max out the current resolution you have. 1080p monitors are inexpensive but i would recomend a 144hz monitor if you plan to stay in the 1080p relm.

With that said the gtx 960 would go well with the 144hz monitor if you decide to go down that road.

I had R9 280x crossfire config. I have been having tons of problems with them like stuttering even though the crossfire was disabled. Drivers are unstable even though I've updated to the new Omega drivers. Then I upgraded to GTX 980 SLI configuration. All my problems disappeared. Tons of the stuttering were eliminated after upgrading my GPUs. Also, I recommend you get a 1080P monitor if you plan to upgrade to GTX 960.

I don't think that he should get a 144 hz monitor. GTX 960 will barely push frame rates above 100. Unless he puts the game settings below ultra or even high most times. 60 hz would definitely be fine!

i would keep the 270x http://www.hwcompare.com/18418/geforce-gtx-960-vs-radeon-r9-270x/ and get a 1080p monitor the 270x is a beast card but the 960 can handle AA by like 13%

I have grown to dislike amd graphics cards. Their drivers are just plain aweful. I almost jerked my r9 270x and put back in my gtx 650 because it seemed on some games the preformance wasn't much of a boost like Starcraft 2 and diablo 3, wircher 2. Sc2 and d3 ran better on my low end 650 it seemed like. Huge jump in bf4 on the 270x tho but Nvidias shadow play is amazing because I like to record my gameplay videos. leaning towards the 960 the more I think about it
