Hello to all.

I have a small and strange problem with a AMD A8-6500 APU.

If I turn on the system for the first time on the day (I turn off the power strip after stop using the computer and I turn it on again when I want to use it again), there's no signal through the HDMI cable, and the system halts; the only thing that I see is the HDD activity led, which turns on and off on two times on intervals of 4 seconds or so, but nothing more.

Then, after that, If I turn it off and then I turn it on again, I can see the post image and the system starts with no problems.

Any suggestions?.

Thanks.

Hello again.

I have found the problem, and it was the RAM; (I have replaced it by another brand) is another cold boot case with a kit of G.Skill RAM (On this case, a kit of Ripjaws X - 2GB each, DDR3 1600 mhz ), search it on the net if you are interested.

Hello, thanks for the response.

It took me a while to answer because I've been experimenting with some options in the BIOS. The PSU doesn't have more than 4 months, is a Antec NeoECO 620C.

As I was saying, I've been experimenting, and I discovered that if I power off the power strip and I power it again, there's no problem; it seems that the problem occurs when I left the system off for half a day, this mean a temperature problem or something?.

I first though in the GPU, since I'm using the one that provides the APU; The screen (A LG TV with a HDMI input) I'm using have a very long power on process, and it shows image afer 4 or 5 seconds before it shows something, and I tough that maybe (although it sounds strange) if the IGPU doesn't "see" any device to output the image, the systems halt, but if I power off and power on again the system, it works correctly (even if left off the TV); also the next times if even unplug the power strip. This is very strange, since it does this thing after the first power on in many hours but not in minutes...

NOTE: Sometimes, if I power on the screen 2 or 3 seconds before I power on the system, it works, but this is very rare.

Also after some info gathering, those 2 graphics options by default, were set on these settings:

Primary Video Device

IGD Video
NB PCIe Slot Video <
SB PCIe Slot Video

Integrated Graphics

Auto <
Disabled
Force

of those, the only option I've changed is the first, from NB PCIe Slot Video to IGD Video, but nothing. Also, I tried to turn off the on screen post logo, set the off the fast boot to try if it gives some time to the IGPU to detect the screen and I can not think of anything else.

As I write this, the system works perfectly, also, I think the temps are right and the APU is properly cooled (with a aftermarket fan).

I don't know what else I could try, to tell the truth, the only thing that I see is that something crashes on the first power up and it lock-up the entire system, but I think that is strange, since if power on and off the system onwards (even disconnecting the power strip) the system works.

To add some final info, I've played with this configuration games like Bioshock Infinite at medium quality at 1360x768, I've used the APU with some intensive 3d modelling programs, I've used virtual machines and many more demanding programs and I haven't suffered any lock-up, BSOD or rebooting.

The PSU is good, no worries. The system is also new or you had another PSU previously?

If you have an ASRock motherboard, upgrade the BIOS to the latest version available and disable all power-saving options from BIOS.

You said that your system halts; it means that you can power it ON again by using the POWER button? Or it is necessary to switch OFF the strip and ON again for the system to start?

Try to power ON the monitor first, wait until the screen message appears and only then power ON the PC.

The system is new, it only have 3 months. Yes, if I power off the computer (not switching off the power strip) and then I power on, I can see the post and the computer, starting from this point, work flawlessly. Even if I power off and then power on the computer there's no problem; I don't know exactly what causes it, this I what I do every time that I power off the system:

1 - I power off the computer.
2 - I unplug the ethernet cable.
3 - I switch off the power strip (but I don't use the PSU switch, maybe it matters?...) and I unplug the wall plug.

then, the next day:

1 - I plug the wall plug of the power strip
2 - I power on the power strip
3 - I plug the ethernet cable
4 - I power on the TV before the computer, but not as you said, I only push the power on button and then wait, but now I think that maybe isn't the problem; if I power off and on the system and then I leave the TV off, it starts normally (The latter happened some hours ago, when I turned on the Ultra Fast Boot option and I left off the TV to test another posibility).

Note: I don't have a ASRock motherboard, I have a Gigabyte one with the last BIOS revision.
