I'd like to get a gaming PC for about $400-500 but if you guys see any obvious upgrades then I will be willing to spend a bit more. So I will post the specs I am looking at and tell me what you think of them.

Tell me what I should keep it the same, what I should upgrade, what I can play with the specs and how long should I expect to be able to play until I need new hardware. I'll do 2 builds. Keep in mind that I would like a quality build that will last me a good duration.

Build 1:
MOBO - MSI 760GMA-p34 AM3+
CPU - AMD FX-6300
GPU - EVGA GeForce GTX 750 Ti
RAM - Crucial Ballistix Sport 4GB
HDD - Seagate Barracuda 250 GB

Build 2:
MOBO - ASUS A78M-E
CPU - AMD Athlon X4 860K
GPU - HIS Radeon R9 270 IceQ X2
RAM - Gskill RipJaws 8GB
HDD: WD Blue 1TB

That's it. Please leave your responses! Remember I'm fairly new to gaming PCs so I don't really have a full grasp on what these setups are capable of so if any advice will be nice as well, thanks!

This is a little over your budget but will prove to be a great build for the price. This should manage 1080p gaming at high settings for games.

I would definitely go for AMD for this budget build.
I think for that money AMD FX 6300 could beat the price/performance ratio. Also, motherboard would become a cheaper possibility.
Also OP, I'd advice on two G.Skill Sniper edition ram, standing at 1600Mhz 4GB (get one stick then later on add another, or just get both).
Also, for myself I'd pick a great PSU to power my system (paranoid; but better safe than sorry). Take the Seasonic M12II 620W, to handle the r9 280x (not like a regular 550W wont, but again, better safe than sorry) and for future upgrades if you will. I believe its also on sale too, so think about grabbing it for your build ;)
