I'm looking for some best bang for the buck suggestions for getting a video card that's no more than $300 for the following system:

uP: i7-4770 @ 3.50GHz
RAM: 32GB
OS: Win7 Ultimate 64-bit
MB: Gigabyte Z87X-UD3H
Monitors: 2 DVI
Power: Corsair AX760 (760 Watts)

If you think a card > $300 should be considered, please justify why. Video card will be leveraged for gaming and photo editing (Lightroom).

Thanks,

Jim

With that kinda power, the R9 290 is probably your best bang-for-buck:

XFX Double Dissipation R9-290A-EDFD Radeon R9 290 4GB 512-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card

XFX makes some awesome products: this comes with a Lifetime warranty.
Make sure you have good airflow, it runs warmer then the Nvidia cards.
It's over $300, but it only requires a 500watt psu, runs cooler then equivalent performing AMD cards, has 4GB of VRAM, has 3 yr. warranty. Requires 1 x 8 pin PCIE power connectors.

ASUS STRIX-GTX970-DC2OC-4GD5 GeForce GTX 970 4GB 256-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 HDCP Ready SLI Support G-SYNC Support Video Card
Not quite as powerful and only 2GB of VRAM, about $129 cheaper. Requires 1 x 6pin power connector.
EVGA 02G-P4-2962-KR GeForce GTX 960 Superclocked 2GB GDDR5 128bit, PCI Express 3.0 2 x Dual-Link DVI-I, DP, HDMI, SLI, HDCP, G-SYNC Ready Graphics Card
1279MHz Boost Clock – Small Form Factor
