A question about my ram usage while stress testing !

I own the G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-2133 Memory and notice it was set to 1600 in the bois so I switched it to 2133. I figured I would stress test my memory and I used Prime95 and IETU.

Prime95 could only stress 4gb out of 8gb and IETU could do about 3.5 out of 8. I tested it before and I switched it from 1600 to 2133 and I had the same results. Does anyone know why ??

Are you running a 32 bit version of Windows? Also, as far as ram speeds go, 1600mhz and a low CAS are best in most applications. Higher speeds only really show improvements in benchmarks.

no I am using windows 7 64bit so It should use all of my ram

Is the BIoS or CPUZ seeing all of the memory? Have you tried the other two slots? Maybe a stick is bad (likely) or a slot is bad (less likely).

That's the thing, everything from the bios to a software app ( cpu-z, IETU ect ) reads both sticks and shows I am cable of running 8 gig's. However I can never stress pass 4gig's

One of the sticks is bad then (or slot, check first). It can see them, but my guess is part of the stick is bad. Ram goes bad, probably not as often as HDs and PSUs, but I have replaced sticks under warranty several times in the past.

Even if the Pc read's both stick's it can still have a bad one ??

Yes, its using all the memory up to the point where there is an error or problem with one of the chips (thats my best guess). It would be nice if you could try another set in it.

No I only have this set, If I were too take it out and try one at a time, would it show me a bad stick on boot up ???

It may, but it will during the bench test.

Is that with one stick? If it is, then thats the one that needs to be replaced. If you haven't, bench each stick, in each slot, one at a time.

I did that when it was late ! so I didn't even think of just using one stick !

I'm not that tech savey so what am I looking for one I run one stick ? 0 error's at all ???

Well, most likely you will see errors on one of them. It may be the slot too, so try different slots as you go with one stick at a time.

Ok I just ended all the swapping of the ram ! I tried the two in the other slots, then I tried single card in the same slots then I tried single cards in the other slots. I also tried everything again with the other stick in the opposite slot. I booted up after each try in memtest and I would get the same results as I posted earlier
