System Interrupts has huge CPU usage.

I'm having a huge problem with my CPU usage right now. It all started off 2 days ago, the same day HP Support Assistant asked me to install a BIOS update. That update failed and still hasn't been installed. I was told they are working on it and it should be fixed at some point.

However, that might not be the root of my problem. On the same day that it tried to update my BIOS, I played a few matches of Heroes of the Storm, a video game. Around 10 minutes in, my speakers started going crazy, making puffing sounds and distorting sounds. My game then became incredibly laggy, to an un-playable degree. I quickly closed it and opened my Task Managed only to find it being at 79% for a split second, then quickly dropping to 12% while not doing anything.

When I started moving my mouse around, it rose to 40%. Taking a closer look at the task manager, I found "System Interrupts" to be taking most of that 40% for some reason. If I would leave my mouse pointer alone, it would quickly fall to 11%, and system interrupts to 0-2%. My computer would then become incredibly laggy and slow until I restart it, where it works just fine until I launch a video game.

I spent the following 2 days trying to find some solution to the problem. I tried running Avast, Windows update, Troubleshoot, Malwearbytes, Rkill, nothing.

Then I figured, my speakers must be causing the problem! Got new speakers, problem still there. Then I went to the HP support site where someone told me to update my audio drivers. Windows said all drivers are up-to-date, so I went into the details and found out that one of them is actually out-dated by a few months. Replacing that Nvidia driver, I again ran that video game. My CPU still went sky-high, and my sound was still broken. While the puffing sounds were gone, the sound would still get heavily distorted.

This a horrible issue to me, as I am a gamer. I found no solution on the entire internet, will I find it here?

EDIT: Now I noticed that "Service Host: Local System (Network restricted)" is also taking around 14% of my CPU. I really need some help right now.

That would have restored your drivers. Since System Interrupts are how drivers communicate with the lower-level OS, restoring to an earlier restore point replaced your drivers.

You may only find confirmation for your issue.

System Interrupts are a low-level BIOS driver issue. I had a similar problem once on an Intel DP35DP (if I recall correctly) board.

It went away once I got an updated Intel BIOS level installed. Or when I installed new drivers for other devices. Ultimately I did the rounds, refreshing every single Driver I could find on the system. Then that went away and I got USB issues another few years of driver updates and the system behaves reasonably, except for slow, and I mean really slow boot-up times.

How could your speakers be the issue? The speaker is an output device. It simply converts the signals the motherboard sends into soundwaves. If it's not contributing anything to the internal computer's working, it cannot possibly be an issue.

I don't know, I am really bad and inexperienced when it comes to computers. That's why I'm in dire need of help.

I finally fixed it! Sadly, I still cannot really pin-point what the issue was, I simply ended up using System Recovery to before HPSA tried to update my BIOS. But, setting the BIOS to default on it's own didn't fix the issue, so it wasn't because of them.

Oh well, always remember to use system recovery when you get a problem like that.

Dammit, it broke again. Looks like whatever caused the problem just repeated itself.

Ah, sorry I didn't finish this thread, after the problem got solved I forgot about it.

Turns out it was my audio driver update that was causing this. I ended up doing another System Restore, this time I went to the Windows Update and simply declined any driver updates, I've been fine with it ever since.
