I'm on amazon about to purchase all my parts for my new PC build. First build in like 6 years. (i've been very busy). I know i want EVGA GTX 970 it has great reviews. But when I go to purchase it on Amazon...it gives me like 8 different card options..and I'm very confused by them. From basic GTX 970 to GTX 970 SSClk 2.0+...here is the link any explanation of which one is the best or any sort of description over what any of the letters and numbers after 970, would very very much appreciated.

Ok I did some digging and found which ones are newest.

Each graphics card has a part number like this one: 04G-P4-2978-KR (970 FTW part num.)

the 3rd row of digits is where I found the difference, anything that starts with a 3 on that row is the newer model while 2 and 1 are older models.

For example, this would be newer: 04G-P4-3xxx-KR
While this is older 04G-P4-2xxx-KR
Reason why there are so many is because some are newer revisions of older cards. Which is why there are two FTW cards. The newer cards have 3 DP 1 HDMI and 1 DVI compared to 2 DVI 1 DP and 1 hdmi.

Here's how it normally goes:

Regular
Superclocked
SuperSuperClocked (lol)
FTW

regular is the lowest clocked (stock clock) card, while the FTW edition is the highest clocked card.

All are good, you just need to figure out which one is right for your budget. BTW...I recommend the newer revision cards since they have better display outs.

which one would be the newest one? lol so many options

The model names are all different, so only the pictures show it. The ones with only 1 DVI port and the rest DP and HDMI are the newer ones. Sorry I can't be more specific.

I'm kinda of confused by this as well. I understand the different model speed alterations but im wondering if it has anything to do with the differing Vram memory brands such as Samsung vs Hynix that the former allows other card makers to achieve higher overclocks and further reliability and revised revisions?

I read, Samsung's Vram is better quality and for example, Gigabyte's 970 G1 v2 uses Hynix and people looking for this model are advised to go for the original G1 with Samsung memory. But in case of Gigabyte, using Hynix, wouldn't they be going backwards?

It's just something i've read is all, not sure how accurate any of it is, thought id ask, maybe it would help the op for some info and myself as well. Thanks
