GTX 780 SLI bottlenecked by CPU..need upgrade suggestions

So, I got two 780s for a really great deal. I noticed a great increase in performance while playing BF4 on one card vs. the 660s in SLI that i had(I installed one while waiting on the new PSU to run both cards).
Well, when I installed the second card, it seemed like performance was actually decreased from what I had experienced with just one card. I'm guessing this is a bottlenecking effect from my weaker cpu- core i7 920 oc'd to 3.5ghz.

I'm wondering how much I actually need to spend to get optimal performance out of the cards. I really don't want to spend more than $300-350 to upgrade, but from what I've been reading, an effective used intel processor alone would be about that much, let alone the mb price, and if I need to upgrade ram and/or get a liquid cooler. AMD processors/mbs are cheaper setups, but i'm not well versed on performance vs. price comparison of intel and AMD.

I've seen higher end used processors for my mb(p6t deluxe) like the 980x, but I don't know if these would still hinder performance, as opposed to a newer gen processor.
any suggestions?

Your Ram is clocked pretty low.

667mhz is definitely a bottleneck.

I would try to set it to at least 1333 mhz. The CPU is fine, but it is likely running that low because it is the highest the CPU supports. 1600mhz should be fine.

LGA1366 is retired. It would be very hard to get a better CPU on that socket. You would need a new motherboard on top of a new CPU.

I misinterpreted it.

Your Ram is running in dual channel. As such, the 667 mhz adds up to 1333 mhz.

3Dmark also depicts my Ram as running like that, although CpuZ says it is running at 804mhz, which adds up to 1600.

Confusing...
