My wife bought a new PC the other day with Windows 8. At first her wireless was working perfectly with my Netgear modem. However, whenever I hook up the ethernet cable to give her a better connection, I get the following error message, even though I use the correct user and pass.

I must admit, however, that I did hard reset my router because I forgot the user and pass I had set up for my netgear moden (y'know, those web address where you typically type in "admin" and "password" to access your modem). However, I still made sure to keep the user and pass for my internet the same, so I still don't see why we should be getting this error message. And now the wireless on her computer won't connect to my router after doing this hard reset! I REALLY don't want to call Time Warner. I've tried one or two things already with no avail. I'm pretty desperate. P.S. My PC still works perfectly fine with our modem, it's just my wife's PC that has issues.

USAFRet, I could understand that except for the fact that my phone can still connect to the wi-fi even though I made it forget my wi-fi on purpose just to test if hard resetting my router caused any problems.

Possibly the reset reverted your WiFi settings to unsecured, and the phone is simply grabbing the open WiFi.

When I go to Wireless Networks, her PC shows my SSID (however, it won't let me connect). I don't know how to check if it is being recognized by the ethernet cable.

EDIT: I got the wireless working now. I had DHCP disabled, and enabling it on my router settings fixed it. Now I just need to get the ethernet connection working.

When it doesn't allow you to connect, what error message, if any, does it give?
