Hi all, I recently just bought a i7 4790k in replacement of the 4670K. This is on a Asus Z87-K Motherboard. I swapped CPU's only to realize that you needed to update the bios for this Devils canyon CPU To work on the board. I was mad and it was a stupid mistake.

The problem I have is that I have no idea how to actually update the bios, I searched around and saw the flashing method, naturally I went to see Linus do it, he did, however when he flashed the BIOS and updated it he used a ROM File. The worry I have here is that when I went to download the latest version it was a CAP File. For reference I am currently on BIOS Version 0902.

I have no idea what to do and now im waiting to see what I should do. Any help is really needed.

Hi,
Im currently writing on my computer with the old CPU in. I have looked at EZ Flash but unsure if it will work with the CAP File from Asus's website. This is because I see tutorials showing them using a ROM File to flash with rather than a CAP

It will work, just unzip the file and save it on a FAT 32 formatted USB drive. Use an USB 2,0 port.

Another thing, when I downloaded the CAP File I got a updater with it, should I use that? Or try the method in the BIOS

From your user manual: http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/LGA1150/Z87-K/E8191_Z87-K.pdf
Starting at Section 2, page 1

If using EZ Flash in BIOS, you don't need the updater.

the EZ Updater utility in the AI suite allows you to update from within windows or with windows running

just go to it, you'll have to drag and drop the unzipped file into the utility's window or browse for it from the utility, then hit start and let it go. Was the easiest way for me. Be sure to read the manual linked above - there was a specific name you have to rename the file, for mine it was Z97MPLUS.CAP before starting.

if you don't have the AI Suite, it will be on the support page of your board at the asus forum
hope that helps
