Hello, I'm fairly new to networking and I've recently run into a problem in my new appartment. Issue being I'm provided with free wifi but the router it comes from is in the main section of the house which is through a rather thick mostly brick wall. As you can imagine the signal is spotty and poor at best.

I've talked it over with the landlord and they are willing to run an ethernet cable through a part in the wall over to the appartment. The thing I'm unsure of is how to best distribute the signal from that one wire to all my devices. Including cell phones, a desktop and a few gaming systems. Either amother router all together, an extender, or some type of ethernet switch. I have a last generation apple airport extreme but I doubt that will be comparable with the non apple base router and none of the computers on the network being a mac. Any input is greatly appreciated.

If they will give you an ethernet port, then I would recommend using a router as an access point. Some routers make it real easy to do it, others not very easy. I have three Asus routers. They all have a one-button option for converting to an access point. That would give you a couple wired ports and your own WIFI access point.
