after much contemplation I fianllt got a samsung 850evo 250gb Ssd.
did the data miagration and then installed Samsung magician and set up the ssd and set to run ahci mode.
did the read write speed test and the results have come and they se way way to high Considering Samsung say that it's capable of 550mbps read speed and I've hit over 1800mbps.
have I done something wrong?
I've selected the os optimization fo. Longer life of the ssd and is running in rapid mode.

motherboard is a sata2 and ssd is sata3.
So I assume that would slow down speeds as well.

Other specs of the pc are. 2x Intel Xeon e5430 quad core processors 2.67ghz (2 processors on the same board)

8gb of ecc ram.

have I done anything wrong and will the sipped slo. Redice the life of my ssd?

Any help appreciated.

thanks.

There is nothing wrong with the benchmarks. You have the Samsung "rapid mode" technology enabled. It is a variation of a "virtual ramdisk". A portion of the memory installed in your motherboard is being used as if it were a disk drive. The motherboard memory is faster than the flash memory used in solid state drives.

Virtual ramdisks are nothing new. I first started experimenting with ramdisks in 1985. I had purchased a Seagate 10MB (NOT GB) hard drive that cost $500.00. The access time was 120 milliseconds. At the time the ramdisks speeded up hard drive performance quite a bit. They still do but not as much with solid state drives. Despite the insane benchmarks the actual performance increase with Samsung's rapid mode enabled is typically between 5% to 25%.
