I am running Windows 8.1 on an SSD with storage on a second HDD.

The HDD is listed with its correct drive letter in File Explorer but attempting to open it gives 'Location not available' 'E:/ is not accessible' 'Access denied'.

'This PC' window does not show any of the normal details

The HDD shows OK in Manager, and a scan shows no problems.

If I replace that HDD with another, File Explorer recognises the replacement OK

Odd Stuff
If I print a pdf, Acrobat gives me the option to save to that drive, and it saves OK
If I try to save a word document there it fails to access

Yes I do have admin access. Sorry for the delay, I did answer earlier, but it's not here so I did something wrong there!

OK, the links were helpful, although based on Windows 7 and I'm having my problem on a Windows 8 machine; they pointed me in the right direction.

When I compared the properties for my C drive and the drive I couldn't access I realised that the not working drive had no users listed; so I went into advanced and added the same 2 users as the C: drive and it started working again.

So thanks; I can't precisely say what worked and how, but it's working now :)
