So, basically, in my current build I have an OCZ Vertex3 120GB SSD and a WD Blue Edition 1TB HDD.
I have the OS installed on the SSD along with the majority of all the programs I use frequently (such as Skype, Google Chrome, WoW, Spotify, etc).
The HDD I stupidly partitioned about a year ago after a fatal BSoD corrupted all the files on my SSD, and I didn't have a backup set up. I split it 50/50. The first 500GB are full of my Downloads folder, all of my lesser used programs such as Firefox, and all of my games on Steam.
The second 500GB I've managed to render useless because Windows seems to think it's not enough space to backup my SSD using Windows Backup and Restore, but in all of the failed attempts to back it up it's somehow chewed up 50GB of space that I'm unable to locate to delete. I have no idea how to unpartition the drive without wiping the other 500GB, and at this point I don't want to do that anyway.
I've started building a new PC, and bought myself a Samsung Evo 840 series 250GB SSD and a Seagate Barracuda 3TB HDD.
My goal at this point in order of events:
1. Wipe the unused 500GB of the failed backup.
2. Migrate all the files on my SSD onto it, so as to not lose them all.
3. Do a complete wipe of the SSD.
4. Put both the OCZ Vertex3 SSD and the WD Blue HDD into my new build alongside the new SSD and HDD.
5. Use my new Win7 install disk to do a fresh install of Win7 Home edition onto the OCZ SSD, which is pretty much what it would strictly be used for going forward. Hosting all the OS files and drivers and stuff.
6. Download WoW, Skype, Chrome, and any and all other programs/games I use/play frequently onto the Samsung SSD.
7. Migrate all my steam games from the old HDD onto the new HDD.
8. Utilise the first 500GB partition of my old HDD for my downloads folder and lesser used programs.
9. Utilise the second 500GB partition to hold all of my old SSD files so I can sort through them eventually.
(10. Buy an extra HDD to utilise as a backup, later on down the road when I have more money)
The problem that I know I have is the fact that whenever I try to migrate some folders it tells me that some files are in use and can't be moved, and stuff like that.
Basically I'm asking how I would do all of the above without corrupting or damaging anything at all, or fucking up my new build because of the remnants of corrupted program files on the SSD. (Note that the numerous "Repair from disc" attempts I've made have done nothing to fix this issue, so I've just left it as a write-off in terms of fixing it, hence the desire to do a complete wipe then reinstall).
Sorry for the long winded post, and any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
