I know very little about computers and their workings - patience is appreciated. I keep getting the error above. along with this error "Microsoft ISATAP Adaptor has a driver problem - Error Code 31". It states "reinstalling the driver might fix this problem". I don't even know what a driver is - can someone please help me out?

A driver is a piece of software that helps hardware communicate with your computer. A bad driver can cause your computer to function improperly, or even to crash.

However, the Teredo Tunneling Adapter is an older feature of Microsofts operating system that is not strictly necessary, from what I remember. I recall having an issue with it myself, but in the end I just deleted the faulty driver and I never had an issue with it again.

However, if the computer pops up a window with this error, something else can be wrong. What causes this error to show up, and how does the message appear (in a window, as output of a program, etc.)?

With the two errors listed above, they happen whenever I try to troubleshoot "anything". If I scan a program looking for any problems, I automatically get the two above-listed errors. So when there are difficulties and I search the system for the problem areas, my results with show as "fixed" or that red dot stating "There's a problem with your adaptor, etc." . The same solution comes up, "reinstalling the driver might fix this problem" - whatever that means!

Thanks for your kind response - I always wait to get blasted by all the techno gurus out there!

No problem :) I will try to keep this accessible, but I tend to use technical jargon when i write a lot, so let me know if you don't understand anything.

From what I understand, you're using some error-scanning software to check for errors, and it's coming up with this error; is that right? Unfortunately, fixing this will require a bit more advanced tools than what those usually provides.

Let's try this: If you're in Windows 7, open the start menu and in the search bar, type "Device Manager". In Windows 8, you can do the same thing by looking for the Device Manager in your search tool. A window should pop up that lists all devices attached to your computer, including a lot of the more specific ones on the motherboard. There will probably be some item in this list that shows an error sign. Can you try posting a screenshot of this list on here? Then we can confirm whether the issue is what I think it is, and we can try to fix it.

You're a sweetheart! I am running 8.1. This may take a while and I think I can access the Device Manager, but how in the world to I post a "screenshot". Remember, you're dealing with Ms. I-Don't-Get-It! Let me try to get that far - hang on if you're not ready for bed!

I might need to go to sleep, sadly :p So I might have to continue tomorrow. I will receive any messages you post here, so don't worry about that.

To make a screenshot, if you have a full sized keyboard there should be a button somewhere above the arrow keys that says "Print Screen" or some abbreviation of that. Pressing the button saves your screen as an image, and then you can paste it into any program to save it. I'd use Paint and just save it as a JPEG file.

Be careful of what else is visible in the image, though; we do not want you accidentally getting personal information in your screenshot that you will post online. If possible, you can use Paint to crop out the Device Manager window, since that is all we need.

I'm still trying to figure out the easiest way to post a picture on this forum, though :p I've never needed to, so I'm not entirely sure how to do it. I'll keep looking while you get the screenshot

You're a saint - now go to bed, I'm sure you have to get up for work tomorrow. I'll get the screenshot no matter how long it takes. I will be gone all day tomorrow so won't be back online until Monday. Hope that's okay. I so appreciate you helping me - I hate 8.1 with a passion, like everyone else!
