I'm not sure if I'm posting this in the right place, but here goes:

I recently got a Xonar DGX PCIE sound card and just installed it & got it working in Windows with no problems (since the CD that came with it had the needed drivers) which is good for gaming, BUT I listen to music/browse the internet/ & watch movies in Linux, and I'm not getting any sound since I disabled the onboard audio before installing the DGX.

So, how do I get the DGX to work in Linux? (Mint Ubuntu kernal 3.11.0 12 generic)

Thanks for the link, but WOW is Linux a pain. I like the whole no viruses aspect but I just spent 1.5 hours trying to upgrade my kernel version to the latest stable one (3.19.1) and failed. It just crashes on start up. The Xonar DGX is supported from version 3.14 onward. I guess I have no choice for the time being but to turn my onboard sound back on...this is not how I wanted to spend my Sunday evening.

I'm not even entirely sure how I got it to work as it was such a confusing process and some time ago, but my best advice would be to get the Xonar drivers through the link provided by MCHenryB and then go into Preferences --> Sound and be sure it's switched to the proper headphone setting (just try them all).

Oh, not sure if you've done this or not, but you need to open your motherboard utility on startup and switch off onboard sound (different for each MB, you should check your manual, or just search through the menus).

Sorry I couldn't be more specific.

go to the Terminal - type "alsamixer" - press "F6" - choose your xonar audiocard - go with the right-arrow to "Analog Output" - with up or down arrows you can switch to "Multichannel" - done.
