Hey tom's hardware peeps. Recently my old-ass PC won't turn on at all, only if i take the CMOS battery out, and even then i go into BIOS to set up the time and date, press F10 (save & exit) and then the pc TOTALLY FREEZES. if i try to restart it by the reset button, it won't work, and the 3 light bulbs from the video card will light up and stay on untill i pull the power cord out of the PSU.
Help please, this PoS is bugging me really hard.

More info:
PC Specs : 400 W PSU, most likely tier5.
Asus m2v-mx se motherboard
AMD athlon x2 4800+ 64x
1gb of DDR2 ram (667)
ASUS eah4870 / 512 mb GDDR5
80 gig Western Digital HDD (usually had a 320gb but i don't use that much.)
PC was bought in 2008, had 4 PSU's replaced, 1 of the 2x1gb slots burned out, Video card has been upgraded a while ago.

Also, before this happened my pc was turning off 15-20 mins into playing a game.
Also, this problem has happened to me before, and if i remember right it took 2 weeks with the CMOS battery taken out and no power for those 2 weeks. that worked, but i don't think this time it will be the same.

If you mean the GPU is the HD 4870, and you need the 500w PSU with 32A on the 12+ rail, I think the 400W does not work. http://www.guru3d.com/articles-pages/radeon-hd-4870-review-asus,5.html

Also you say the "1 of the 2x1gb slots burned out", and the MB may has other problem too, you are better to don't use it. It is time to get the used one or the whole new PC.

Been there, done that.

I don't understand what you want to say with:"It is time to get the used one or the whole new PC."
Also, the PSU works 100%, ain't even that old, and also the GPU is totally fine, works perfectly (or atleast worked for 2 years) , same for the PSU. Also the RAM burned out together with the first PSU that was in the original PC (was a 450w one, but back then i only had an x1550 which didn't need 4 more power slots, if you could call them that.) Also i don't understand why it is doing this, since it worked fine before i shut it down from the power button. Since then.... doesn't want to work. Halp.

I mean the used MB or the whole new PC, because if the MB was burned out the memory slot, and that will bring down other electronic components too, like capacitors, resistor, etc. and nobody know which one is, that is why I said you are better to buy either the used MB or the whole new PC, don't use that old MB anymore.

Na, motherboard is fine, i meant one of the 2 x 1gb rams. the ram was burned out. one out of two. Anyways, troubleshooted more : HDD seems fine, same for the Video card, tried it in another friends's build, my father checked the psu with some equipment, hell knows what, he said it's fine. Furthermore, the last remaining RAM works fine no probs. last thing that remains is the CPU, but i doubt it is the cpu.

If you think the problem is the cpu, then try use other cpu.
