I have an Asus R9 270 OC DirectCUII. I have an offer on the table to sell it for $100 and buy a Sapphire Tri-X 280x for $170. I am more then happy with my card but I know the 280x will support DirectX12 but not sure if mine will or not. Can someone please let me know.
Also, is the upgrade worth $70? It seems like it to me.
Thanks.

Prices are in Canadian dollars.

Solution
1) YES. DX12 support exists for the HD7000 and Rx-2XX series.

2) Is it "worth it"?
That's for you to decide. Here's what you can expect in terms of performance though it also depends on your CPU, and the relative overclocking capability of your cards (great R9-270 closes some of the gap on a relatively weak R9-280X).

36% improvement on average is the BEST CASE SCENARIO so I'm not sure that's worth the money. Personally I'd save up for a better card.

Update: may be closer to 40% as the stock R9-270 isn't shown.

So for example, you might get as much as 45% boost in some games (it is an average) though again it also depends on your CPU. Let's assume you have a good...

30FPS jumps to over 43FPS

Solution
All DirectX 11 cards will be able to run DirectX 12 (eventually) through software. This is essentially a workaround, rather than true hardware support, so some elements of DirectX 12 may not be available due to the performance hit. Only the new Maxwell 2 cards have special hardware built in to properly run all of the features of DirectX 12.

AMD clearly said that all their GPUs which are GCN-enabled will fully support DirectX 12. While NVIDIA on the other hand stated that their Fermi, Kepler, and Maxwell series will work fully with DirectX 12
