R9 290 heat issue

Well...
There's always aftermarket coolers. But even though the card is known for being a furnace, the card shouldn't get that hot. Maybe an occasional spike and then back down. But if you are sitting at 90C for several seconds, that's not good. Does the case have enough airflow? Is it clean? Cable management good so as not to block off airflow? Has the card been in constant heavy use for the last couple years? Might need a thermal paste re-do.

I'd say not much air flow and the system isn't even a month old

It might be safe, AMD claims that the mid-90c's is a normal operating temperature for a reference model. So its safe, but the question is whether you are experiencing any clock speed throttling when you hit 90c.

What do you mean!? That case has plenty of airflow. Maybe add some top fans. But it has 3 x 120mm front fans and an exhaust fan. Thermal dynamics alone will vent heat buildup out the top vents on the case.
My 290X will get into the low 80s sometimes, but never 90C. Hows the cable management?

well i haven't noticed and clock speed throttling but i was only playing csgo while this happened with a fps of 299-301 with everything max out. I know that the r9 280x i had never got this hot so idk it may just be the case isnt getting enough cool. I've even tried maxing the fans out to 100% fan and it still stays around 80-87c in case.

It's possible the factory didn't do a good job of installing the thermal paste. You might want to re-do it.
I used to have a pair of GTX 570 and one card was always way hotter than the other. No matter which way I swapped them around. One day I took apart the cards to replace the TIM and noticed the bad card had a poorly applied application of its TIM. Off to one side and very little. After re-doing both cards they were cool as the proverbial cucumber.

the cables are barely visable and atm i am out of thermal paste as i used the last of it redoing my cpu but atm i only have 2 fans in front one on top and the other one i put on my liquid cooler for push/pull

I still haven't heard if you have the reference model. If so, your temperatures are completely normal. Pretty good, actually, since these reviews are all hitting 94c in an open test bench.

There is the gpu i bought and my idle is setting at 52c

That's not a reference model, so it should be as good or bad at cooling as any other. But the fact that you are now idling at 52C tells me there is a problem. My 290X idles at mid 30s. I doubt it's a case fan issue, but I'd move the fan back to the front.

Next time you see it idling at 52C, remove the side panel of the case and see if the temp starts going down.

At this point, I would have to assume there is something wrong with the card. Could be the TIM, could be something worse. If the card's BIOS is reporting that the fans are spinning at 100%, then it can't be my next thought... that the fans were not spinning up to speed for whatever reason.

Right im not sure either even at 100% fan speed you still cant hear them but ik they are spinning. May end up getting a hold of new egg and have it rma and may switch the the sapphire tri-x 4gb gpu
